Overview:
North Suburban Synagogue Beth El, a vibrant synagogue in Highland Park, Illinois seeks an experienced development and fundraising professional to direct the synagogue’s development function during an exciting period of organizational and operational growth.
The Director of Development will develop and implement strategies to achieve $1,000,000+ in annual campaign revenue, with the goal of increasing the campaign to $1,500,000+ over the next 3 years. They will lead development and fundraising in the identification, stewardship, cultivation and solicitation of individual donors, gala sponsors, and volunteers. The Director of Development reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Senior Rabbi, Board President and VP of Development and Fundraising.

Responsibilities:
Work with the Board VP of Development and Fundraising to implement a strategic fundraising plan and timeline, identifying key tools and resources necessary to ensure a successful annual giving.
Manage an initial portfolio of approximately 100 donors at levels ranging from $5,000 - $36,000, with the goal of increasing our donors over the next 3 years.
Provide stewardship to donors which include the following: acknowledgment letters, updates, and impact reports.
Oversee, maintain, and growth of the Annual Giving program including the Kol Nidre appeal, annual donor levels, online giving, sponsorships, all fundraising aspects of the Gala event and grant opportunities.
Work in partnership with lay leadership to create and implement a strategic major gifts program, including recognition opportunities, cultivation, and stewardship/recognition societies and events. While cultivating relationships with new prospective donors and current donors.
Research, plan and implement practices to engage with past and current Board members to keep them engaged and giving to the organization by creating lists of potential donors and sponsors.
Update corporate sponsorship materials for the Annual Gala, including sponsorship benefit levels and solicitation letters, track sponsor contracts, and ensure donor(s) receive all benefits.
Manage donor event/s revenue and expense budgets utilizing metrics and data.
Liaison with the NSSBE Endowment Corporation Board and provide oversight and growth of Legacy Giving.
Work closely with the Executive Director, Clergy, Communications/Marketing, and Board of Directors on various activities throughout the year.
Partner with various departments that have events/programming scheduled and invite Development donors to the programs to enhance their knowledge of all that NSSBE has to offer.
Collaborate with the NSSBE professional staff to cultivate a warm and inclusive environment at the synagogue that inspires members to want to give back.
Stay informed concerning new trends and best practices in nonprofit fundraising and development.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum 5-7 years of Development experience including demonstrated success in individual giving, corporate sponsorship, and special events fundraising and management.
Experience with fundraising and data management systems; ShulCloud is highly desirable.
Experience with Moves Management including, but not limited to, prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Knowledge of local Jewish community, familiarity with synagogue operations, and non-profit is a plus.
Skills and Abilities:
Proven success in identifying and soliciting funds from individuals, corporations, and foundations from a variety of sources and in developing relationships with donors.
A record of measurable results in organizing and implementing such activities as annual gifts, capital campaigns, and special events.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills required. Demonstrated ability to write in a clear, professional and persuasive manner.
Excellent time management skills and a high degree of organization, careful attention to detail, ability to multitask and to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Understanding of the Chicago Jewish community.
Ability to work on selected weekdays, nights and weekend evenings as needed.
Computer literacy and knowledge of data management systems.
Well-disciplined, self-motivated and goal-driven; able to work with a high degree of independence as well as part of a team.
Ability to appropriately handle confidential matters and information.
Flexibility and willingness to assume new tasks and special projects as given.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software; Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Ability to participate in cross-departmental projects, using tact and diplomacy.
Ability to effectively identify, analyze and solve problems.
Local Travel Required

Benefits:
Salary $90,000-120,0000, based on experience.
